About Me

Hi, I’m Kate

Who I Am

I'm Kate, a UKCP-accredited psychotherapist. I've been working with women since 2014, both in traditional therapy settings and outdoors through ecotherapy. I offer indoor therapy in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, outdoor therapy in Hexham, Northumberland, and I also work with clients online across the UK.

Before training to become a counsellor and psychotherapist, I worked for a parenting helpline; where I spoke to parents in crisis. which taught me that people in the most overwhelming moments still know what they need and they just need someone to listen without fixing.

That experience also deepened my understanding of how crucial the early parenting relationship is in shaping our ability to trust ourselves.

For nine years, I worked in a women's centre, where much of my work focused on women navigating difficult early relationships, including women who'd been in care, women estranged from their families, and women trying to make sense of confusing patterns while building lives of their own.

Why This Work

I'm drawn to this work because I understand, both personally and professionally, how difficult early relational patterns can be. I know what it's like to untangle yourself from expectations that weren't yours to begin with. I also know what it's like to be a mother and how it can make you focus on the parent - child relationship, to learn how to show up differently for your child, and to recognize how much gets passed down without intention.

At heart, I'm a feminist. I see how many women are taught to be good girls, to prioritize others, to make themselves smaller. The narrative often tells women to stay close, stay compliant, stay quiet. This may lead women to not attending to their own needs and make them feel invisible in their own lives.

I went into therapy myself in my twenties. It was through that process that I learned how to become the woman I am today. That experience shapes how I work: with patience, honesty, and a belief that you can grow into yourself, even when it feels impossibly hard.

My background: What makes me qualified to help you

How I Work

I'm an integrative psychotherapist, which means I draw on relational, attachment-based, and trauma-informed approaches depending on what's most useful for you. I hold an MSc in Psychotherapy and am UKCP-accredited.

My work focuses on early experiences where emotional support was inconsistent, or where you learnt to prioritise others' needs over your own. This may include developmental and complex trauma, though not everyone I work with identifies with these terms.

I work with women who are curious about why they feel the way they do.

Everyone thinks and processes differently. We'll figure out what works for you, paying attention to any neurodivergent needs you may have. Whether that's traditional talking, moving while we talk, or something else entirely.

What It's Like to Work With Me

I'm steady, direct, and boundaried. I'll help you see what's happening without telling you what to do. I won't rush you, but I also won't leave difficult things unexamined.

Some of my work happens outdoors in Hexham, Northumberland, using nature as a resource for grounding and reflection. I've been working ecotherapeutically since 2014. Whether we meet inside or outside, the focus is helping you develop a clearer sense of yourself.

Alongside my client work, I'm a tutor of counselling students and a clinical supervisor. This keeps my practice reflective, ethically grounded, and connected to the wider therapeutic field.
